When talking about economy class, the idea of 'cattle class' and 'sardines in a can' usually come into everyone's mind. But if you're lucky enough like I was, you can score an entire economy cabin to yourself!
「经济舱」这个词语,很容易令大家联想到像地狱般的体验。但如果你有运气的话,大家也可以像我一样在整个行程中都拥有属于自己的经济舱!
To know the trick, we'll first have to get into the cabin layout of Malaysia Airlines' A330-300.
首先大家要了解的是马来西亚航空A330-300的座位配置。
Considering the seat map below, you'll see rows 9 and 10 form the first economy cabin, followed by the galley and lavatories, then finally the main economy cabin.
看一下以下的座位配置图,第9和10行属于第一个经济舱,然后后面有厨房,洗手间,然后才到较大的经济舱。
The first economy cabin typically requires a fee depending on flight distance apart from Malaysia Airlines' elite members (top tier Enrich platinum) as the airlines has pointed out:
"Complimentary Emergency Exit & Extra Legroom Seat selection. Applicable during Check-In only and subject to availability."
第一个经济舱通常都需要额外付费,除非你是马航最高级的白金常飞客。但即使如此,白金客也只可以在check-in时免费request第9/10行的座位。
On my flight, I was really lucky to have the cabin to myself as no one else was willing to pay for the extra legroom

As I've pointed out before, understanding the seat configuration will always get you a better seat

The seats are pretty basic and are what you would expect in a typical economy cabin. Every seast features an adjustable headrest, IFE screen, a recline button and also an universal power outlet underneath.
座位设计都比较基本,大致上都跟大家会在其他航空公司上看到的一样。
每个座位上都设有可调较的头枕,娱乐屏幕,后顷,USB叉电孔和万能插。

Dinner was served on this flight and I opted for the chicken rice with gin and tonic.
这班机上有晚餐,而我就选择了鸡饭。饮品方便选了 gin and tonic,好让酒精放松一下奔波了整天的我。
While the cabin crew were busy serving the rest of the cabin, they brought my gin and tonic back promptly.
虽然空服员都忙于服务其余的乘客,但她很迅速地便带回了我的饮品。
The only let down was the vegetables that I don't really like eating...
唯一可挑剔的是那些蔬菜我几乎都不吃的 (挑食对身体不好哦)

This flight was delayed due to heavy traffic at Hong Kong International Airport. As I was the only one in the cabin, my filming and photography of the cabin once again attracted attention of one cabin crew. She came and chat with me for a while, explained the reason for the delay and also some small discussions of the protests in Hong Kong (back then the protests were full on in HK).
这班机在香港因为机场繁忙所以延迟了大约1小时。由于我在机舱里拍摄,再一次引来了空服员的注意。她便借延迟的空档来跟我谈天,跟我解释延迟的原因,我对飞机有兴趣的原因和谈了一下大家对香港当时游行的见解。
To me, this was a nice gesture. As delays can really ruin one's mood, her act of trying to make time go faster really helped.
对我而言,这是一个很好的行动,因为我们的对话让时间过得快了一点。
I've also noticed some crew of Malaysia Airlines are a bit shy in front of the camera although I wasn't trying to film him. But for the best interest of everyone, I never intended to photograph or film anyone anyway.
做整个飞行过程中,虽然我并没有拍摄空服员,我留意到他们对着镜头时都比较害羞。

Malaysia Airlines has received some negative feedback from some particular incidents over the years, experienced financial hardship and controversy on its safety.
在这几年来,马航都经历了不少崎岖之路-由多年前不幸的MH370事件,到财困,然后现在武汉肺炎;当中某些事件,特别是MH370,它的安全受尽质疑,外界批评满天飞,纵使事件与马航对安全的要求无关。
However, from what I've experienced, they provide excellent service and is one of the very few airlines where the cabin crew would actually engage a conversation with you in economy, which is probably something that would only be done (robotically) to elite members or those flying in premium cabins, so kudos to MH crew!
然而,我并没有理会那些谣言太多。经历过这一次飞行旅程之后,我体验到了马航真实的服务,与外界对它所有的负面评价是恰好相反的。加上我不是马航的贵宾,但我却得到大多数贵宾才会有的 small talks,实在感到开心和意外。将来有机会的话,我一定会再乘搭马航。
To me, Malaysia Airlines would be an airline that I'll happily fly again in the future. Can't wait to set foot into another MH metal!
